CT Drum show April 22nd...........

From FFR428

Anyone here going to the CT show on April 22nd? Looks like a nice show and I've never been there. Hoping to score a few things. How's the show in general anyone here gone in the past? If so is there a good selection of vintage items and how are prices? Carmine and Vinny Appice and a few others doing clincs. www.ctdrumshow.com Glenn.

Glenn,

This year's show is in the same venue as last year, and it's a little cramped. But then again, what's so bad about be sufficated by tons of drum gear? It's a relatively small venue, and can't be compared to Chicago, but there are still some deals to be had. Bun E. Carlos and Liberty Devitto put on great clinics, and there was a good amount of vintage gear to balance off the dealers pushing just the new stuff. My highlight was talking to Jack Lawton and picking up a few of his perfect, reproduction logo heads.

I'll be there only the first couple hours. Have a good time!

Hi Mike thanks for the info. Good to hear there's some vintage gear there. I was hoping to hear that. Sounds like the clincs will be pretty good too. Enjoy the show!

Glenn,

Hope you enjoyed the show as much as I did. The vintage gear far outnumbered the new custom drums, and I was able to find several elusive parts I've been looking for. Surprisingly, I couldn't find a basic Ludwig L-arm for my rail consolette, but Jack Lawton instructed me in detail how to make one from a Ludwig floor tom leg! Joe Montineri gave me a lesson in the differences between vintage plys vs modern, and then sold me a mint 6.5" COB Dynasonic (with snare frame) for a steal price. Regretably, I couldn't stay for the clinics, so you'll have to fill me in.

Mike I ended up with a nasty flu bug and missed the show. It's been going through the family and was hoping to stay clear but it got me. VERY dissapointed I missed the show. Sounds like it was a good one. And you scored some great deals and a few good tips too. Nice! I had a good size shopping list too and was looking forward it. Dang it. Yes please show a few pics of that dyna when you can!! Glad you had a good time~! There's always next year for me.

I am a first time poster here but was set up at the CT Vintage and Custom Drum show again this year and did take one or two pictures from the show that I will post here.

The first picture is one side of a snare drum that was offered by the guys at Creation drums. The painting was done by a tattoo artist that was local to them.

This is a second snare drum offered by Creation that was done by a different tattoo artist and was one of my favorite pieces at the show.

And lastly, this was one of my offerings tothe show this year. The set is made up of three vintage 60's/70's era Slingerland shells that were stripped down to she wood whn I started and then decided to combine two of my vices in life, drums and cigars. The kit was used to display the fresh tucked calfskin heads that I made and was selling at the show. Sorry I don't have any other pictures besides two of my pwn booth to share because I was very busy which isn't a bad thing. I will post some other pictures of the cigar kit in a separate thread if there is any interest in seeing more of it.

I like the use of the cigar bands. I gave up cigars but still think the bands are cool. Thanks for the pics!

CT Pro,

I walked by your cigar-band set several times at the show and wrongly assumed it was just some crazy, modern wrap. Are those actual cigar bands? If so, I'd like to know how you applied them, because I have thousands of vintage postage stamps and an old MIJ stencil kit in my basement.

Yes, they are in fact individual bands, about 2500 to be exact. I applied them all one at a time using a canned glue from Home Depot and used a Q-tip as a small applicator. It took about 150 hours from start to finish. I did a photo diary of the entire process for anyone that wants to check it out, it is on my Facebook page in the Cigar Band Project album.
