Last weekend, we were cleaning out my parent's house, as they
have down-sized and moved to an apartment. As I was looking through
things, in a small box of pictures, I found a ticket that my dad saved.
It was from June 25, 1966. It was a ticket for a Louis Armstrong
concert at Cedar Point/Sandusky, Ohio. The ticket cost was $3.00.
On the back of this ticket was a signature. Turns out to be
Cozy Cole's autograph!! Dad met him that night of the concert, and
got the autograph. The Cedar Point ballroom was in the second floor
of the arcade building. It's used for storage, now. Thought this was
a neat piece of drumming/music history that could have been thrown
away. The date of this concert was a day after my 10th birthday.
Dad is 90 years old, started playing drums at a young age. He played
snare for his local high school band while in elementary school. We
have several pictures of him in band as a youth. My grandfather used
to turn/make his drumsticks on a lathe in the garage.
