Correct Ludwig part number for Acrolite muffler needed Last viewed: 54 minutes ago

Loading...

My Acrolite is missing the original muffler - B/O badge s/n is 930173, which would put it about 1976-77. I'm seeing so much variation in pictures around the web, that I'm unsure as to the correct tone control. (Really focusing on correct knob size/style.)

Could someone look it up in Rob's book for me, or check a same year Acro? (Or if you just know, Ludwig experts). That way I know what I'm looking for as I'm scouring the web or VDF's For Sale for the correct part.

The images are from a friend of mine's that I have here that dates from about 1972 (s/n 911299).

Thanks for any help with it - and of course, if anyone has the correct unit for sale.....?? :)

Basically, it's the same muffler as used with the Classic series of drums, but with the style of knob also used on the Standard series from 1968-72. You want the style that has the knob above the mounting screw, just as you pictured. That's pretty much it. I've been able to score some of these on eBay to complete Standard snare drums that were missing them. Good luck!

i'd say yours is closer to a 72 model most likely. Ludwig started using the large one inch knob on many drums after 68. but many of the acrolites still used the 3/4" round knob muffler for years. ive had two early 70s models and both had the smaller one. I think either would be fine for the drum though.

I have a 1970, 1976, 1979 here at the moment and all have the same muffler knob as in the photos above. The 79, however, has the mounting screw above the knob.

for the most part, Ludwig doesn't use mufflers on their newer drums. they may not even make that particular one anymore. they do still make the one with the screw above the knob. it is p40662. you may have to get some Ludwig dealer to assist you. i'd just pick up a used one.

Ok. Thanks everyone for all your help again! I'll keep my eyes open on the Sale forum here, as well as eBay, CL etc.
