Convert Octa to normal drums Last viewed: 9 minutes ago

I picked up a 6 ply kit that had a 16x24 BD, a double headed 18x16 FT, 12x11 and 13x12 double headed toms with the slide mount and a 15x14 and 16x15 concert toms with 8 small lugs. I took the 16x15 and added 8 small lugs on the bottom as well as floor tom legs and brackets. I play it with the 13x12 on a snare stand, 16x15, 18x16 and the 16x24. Sounds great and none of my drum buddies have ever mentioned the extra small lugs on the 16x15. The 13x12 tunes fine and doesn't sound like other power toms and doesn't really look out of place with the big BD. I have an Ayotte kit that came with a 16x15 floor. I think other modern kits have come with that size 16. Like someone said, in the 6 ply era you saw about anything.

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

That's cool. In the long run it would be nice if at least a few of these sets survived intact. I don't have a problem with someone converting "orphan" concert toms (and it's really none of my business anyhow) but someone with an intact octa-plus (or even a quadra-plus) set should consider things more carefully.
