Concert tom head suggestion Last viewed: 12 hours ago

I've been checking out all the interest in concert toms on the forum. Bermuda's new site is very cool and reminds me of the 4 concert toms I had with my Slingerland kit back in the 80's. Will post pictures when I find them!

I have a PDP X7 kit that has toms in the following diameters: rack toms of 8", 10" and 12" and floor toms of 14" and 16". Rather than remove all the bottom heads, what type of sound do you think I'd achieve by installing "mesh heads" on the bottom? Pearl makes these and are available for pretty cheap prices at Musician's Friend. I thought that the use of these heads on the reso side would still allow a "concert tom" sound, while also protecting the bearing edges if I want to transport the kit.

Comments, suggestions?!!

I think you answered your own question, the drums would have concert tom sound because there would be no bottom head for resonance.
