COB Dynasonic...How do you clean one?

Loading...

Hi gang.

Had a great CL buy last night with the crown ***l being this dyna.

I've never played or restored one and really looking forward to both.

Any tips? I have never worked with that snare wire guard thing.

I know it is COB because a fridge magnet didn't stick and I shaved a little chrome off of a lud hole revealing bright golden brassy goodness.

Cheers!

Thought you might like to know that ALL Rogers metal Dynasonics are COB. They never made a steel shelled Dynasonic. The Rogers SuperTen is a different story of course. Also,

That "snare wire guard thing" is the snare frame, and is the heart/soul of the Dynasonic snare drum. It's literally what makes a Dynasonic a Dynasonic! To that end, I wrote a brief overview/tutorial on the set-up of the snare frame/tension, etc. When you are all cleaned and polished, have a look at this: http://www.vintagedrumguide.com/rogers_dynasonic_set_up2.html It will help you get the drum in a nice area sound wise. They can be tricky and a tad finicky if one isn't familiar with how they work. ENJOY!

Cleaning........... if it is good for chrome it will be OK on a Dyna-Sonic. DO NOT..... under any conditions, or for any reason.... EVER ....NEVER>>> absolutely do not use steel wool. I don't care what anyone says about it, or how "they" might have done it, or whomever says it is ok. I will tell you right now, that person is an idiot. And, you will ruin your drum.

A good chrome polish/cleaner will do just fine. Soft cloths, baby diapers, microfiber. Do not use any abrasives or cleaners that contain abrasives.

Do follow Tommy P's directions. You cannot go wrong. If the wires are toast...Puresound Dyna-Sonic replacement wires are the only available replacement. Unless of course, you find original Rogers.

All done. No steel wool. Just a quick soak in grease lightning and polish with SEMI CHROME. Info on the snare wires set up was very helpful! Thanks guys!!
