Checking these out tonight, Rogers Holiday kit

Powertones have COS rims. COB shells. Wouldn't wake the man up but I would get the PT ASAP if it is anything <= $225.00. That one looks nice so maybe more with case etc...

I still smile at the serious snap a PT has. Here is mine. Getting better at making drums shinny so this is the third teardown. Crappy basement pics. The engraving is US Army int cntr. Still an induction center in Spokane but asked and they were not missing a snare.

Just a couple of comments and questions... Were the interiors flat grey or speckled? Are the lug screws hex head or round head? The kit appears to probably be a Dayton kit (Dayton tags). 22" bass drums from the Dayton era are the bomb and not that common. Great sizes, nice blue glass, looks like nice chrome. The Powertone looks nice. What did the PT paper tag say?

Powertones were all chrome over brass shells. No disrespect intended, but that was an error in the first edition of The Rogers book re the steel shells.

I also noticed an additional mount on the bass drum so not sure what is up with that. Would need to see more pictures.

Re the price.... It's your call, but seems very reasonable to me, especially if they have flat grey interiors (and despite the extra mount). However I would want to know more.

Not to mention that you would love playing these drums!

That's a very nice player's kit EricP. It is a PowerTone snare and the shell will be brass. There are a few oddities, as follows:

1. Position of the double tom holder is unusual. It is seen from time to time.

2. The knobby on the left side of the bass drum is also unusual and not too useful in that position. My guess is that bass was originally from a double bass set-up and the double tom mount was added later, but it's not a regular factory set-up in any event.

3. The tom has twin scripts. Typical from very early Fullerton onward. However, the wrap seam on that mounted tom is in an unusual location too. It sometimes shows up in the Dayton era, but with only one script. Could be someone added a script.

Overall, great gig set. I would say $$650 to 750 was a fair price if you are going to play it out. Beyond that, tough to recover if you want to sell again later on.

It's possibly a lefty set with a knobby cymbal mount that has been turned around for a righty. The double tom mount with the knobby under a tom makes no sense to me as an original configuration. Perhaps the knobby replaced a tom mount receiver on a righty set, and the center mount was either added on or was originally a cymbal mount in an odd position. With Swivo hardware, the possibilites are endless. Nonetheless, that's a good looking drum set in what was probably the most popular wrap that Rogers ever sold. I think that $800 cash and carry would be a fair price for seller and buyer.

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.
