Hey Guys,
Seeing as how the holiday season is fast approaching, and being a huge fan of the Peanuts and Charlie Brown Christmas Special cartoon from 1965, and the music of the Vince Guaraldi Trio, i had a couple of drum related questions for you Gretsch experts that i would like to know the answer to.. (BTW, i'm not a jazz drummer, just a fan of the music and cartoon..)
I was just watching this cool little documentary on the CB Christmas Special and what the creators all went through in making it..Very interesting.. When the subject of the music comes up, there's an old photo of the Vince Guaraldi trio presumably in studio recording the actual music for the special, and i noticed that the drums were Gretsch, as seemed to be the top choice of jazz drummers during that time, but i could be wrong..When i think of jazz drumming or drums, i think of Gretsch..( and this is coming from a Ludwig man !..)
Now, onto my questions..
1- Does anyone know who the drummer was ?
2- What cymbals did he use ? (I'm guessing Zildjian, but which ones?)
This is just simple curiosity, but also questions that i've pondered over for a few years now.. The cymbal sound is just beautiful and lush, warm and dark all at the same time, played with a superbly soft touch.. Also, his brush work literally gives you the impression that you're almost walking on a quiet, beautiful snowy white street, and suits the mood of the scenes in the cartoon perfectly..
Thanks in advance to all who will no doubt have fun giving me their input !
Cheers and even though it's still a little early, Happy Holidays ! ;)
