Chance to purchase these -- how much should I pay

Loading...

I have a shot at buying this Duco kit and this xylophone at an upcoming tag sale about 40 miles from me. I don't know the asking price, but I'll find out.

But -- Who made the the xylo? I think the drums are Slingies, but not sure. How much should I pay? If I did make the purchase, I would probably sell them.

Here's a link to the estate sle page where you can find pics:

Man as cool as the kit is the trains that are there buy them big bucks no kidding! back to the kit are the cymbal spun brass or zildjian or there variant, makes a big difference in the price, you know this, for the kit 800,00 to 1200.00 this really tough to tell is that a floor tom also?? the tacked toms don't bring much now! and if those are K's you know what they bring!

Your drummers not much good is he!? What you need is someone that's as good as me. ! John Henry Bonham !!

That set looks to be complete, down to the brushes.......

It would be a real shame and close to criminal to separate any element of that set from itsself.

It's a piece of history.

That's not a xylo, it's a vibraphone. It's a Musser, looks like a Century model. Nice instrument -- sells for about $4500-$5000 new.

Agreed. Please DO NOT part out anything in this kit! These complete kits are like hen's teeth these days!

And now, we pause for an Educational Moment.....

"hens teeth"

Chicks have an egg tooth. It drops off after a bit. They aren't called hens until after one year (long after the tooth drops off), so a hen would not have this tooth. I seem to recall a study back in the early 80's where mouse mesenchyme was added to the embryonic chick epithelium and a tooth grew. That was cool. The chicken grew up with a molar - a hens tooth, so to speak.

But, the phrase infers that it doesn't naturally occur, so it still stands. Hens teeth are indeed rare and do not occur in nature. Pretty neato stuff, though.

The vibraphone looks like a Lionel Hampton model, with the gold bars and the telling pedal bracket. They sold for $6000+ if I remember right...
