Carl Palmer Ludwig Venus issues

Loading...

I picked up a new CP Venus online without playing it and it seems to have major issues with the throwoff not completely disengaging from the bottom head.

It appears to be a combo of the narrow snare slot and the snare action.

Looking for mods that might make it usable other wise back to store.

How could Ludwig ship a product as flawed as this?

Check out the difference between the Sensitone snare gate slot and the Ludwig in the photos.

Looks normal to me. Did you try backing off the adjuster thumbscrew?

I like a tight dry articulate sound, backing off causes the snares to rattle and the articulation is pretty much gone.

I'm not the only one to notice this.

One of Carls vids of him using this drum sees him constantly fiddling with the action trying to get the snares to disengage all the way.

I'm going to try a plastic strip on the snares as that's what he seems to be recommending.

You're not alone.. I tried this snare drum at my local shop one day when it first came out, and found that it had that same issue.. Snare throw is off, and you'd still hear the snares rattling..Loosen almost to the point where the throw off would come loose and fall off, and you'd still hear a slight rattling.. The snare drum itself sounded great, but Ludwig definitely missed on the throw-off mechanism on this drum, and their Supralite models..It is an extremely cheap throw off, even for a $400 snare drum like the CP signature model..I don't think any amount of fiddling with different ways to adjust the throw-off will fix the problem, short of installing a P-83 piccolo throw-off, and even then i wouldn't bother..

Yeah,it's looks like this one is going back.

Beautiful looking drum, but how frigging hard can it be to test the damn thing before you go into production?

I have one though got it for a steal. I love it though I'm far less discrimination when it comes to sound and performance.

In a Carl video I believe he even recommends changing the throwoff or the snare wires. I forget which.

Looks to me that the bottom head is stretched out to it`s limit. That brings the rim of the head down more and leaves less room for wire movement. The answer for this issue is a larger gate.

That may be the case, but a snare drum of that price, endorsed by the drummer which it is modeled for, shouldn't do that.. The fact that he himself mentions to change the throw-off or snare beds in a video demo, is testament to the quality of craftsmanship on this particular model

snare drum.. I bought my vintage Acrolite for $100 and it is much more reliable than this $400 drum. Looks cool, sounds good, but the hardware, in this case throw-off, is pure garbage..

Yea it looks notched out on the flange too,...that`s a crazy design flaw for sure. I`ve never seen a snare gate like that.
