Hey Fellers. Can I pick your brain?Got an old slingy chrome snare. The production crimps in the snare bed wont allow me to install the head? The crimped portion of the bearing edge protrudes ****her than the shell diameter. This is a classic WTF moment.Appreciate any comments. Thanks

Or Aquarian American Vintage. They are oversized to compensate for these types of problems.

They also have one called Modern Vintage, but not sure if it is oversized or not.

Modern vintage are NOT oversized... but they are made from the same material as the American Vintage and in the same thin and medium weights.

As I mentioned in another thread, Aquarian's reference point of .050" ID oversize is their standard-size heads, which already have fairly thick hoops.

Have you tried a Remo snare head?

Make sure you check the roundness of the shell. I've had problems with a couple Sound Kings & recently a Super Sound King. Due to the fact that Slingy didn't use a large beaded brass shell, these things went out of round very easily, the Steel shell Festival model does the same thing. Take a tape measurer & check the dimensions side-to-side all the way around the drum. I'll wager that the crimped beds greatly exceed the head measurement width.
