Can someone identify these lugs (possibly Slingerland)?

Loading...

Hello,

I'm new to this message board so please allow me to begin by introducing myself. My name is Chris Gervais and I've been playing drums for about 30 years now. My first kit was an old beat up Rogers 5 piece (which I no longer have) and for the bulk of my playing career I've played on various Tama kits (Swingstar, Imperialstar, and now Granstar Customs).

In addition to playing drums, I've also developed a hobby of repairing/refurbishing various drum gear (stands, kick pedals, etc.). So, I buy various pieces of broken, rusty, surplus or otherwise damaged equipment either individually or in lots (which brings me to the purpose of this posting).

I recently purchased an assortment of random lugs and brackets in order to get my hands on a few specific pieces in the lot. My intention is to identify and sell of the other items but one piece in particular has me stumped. To me, it appears to be a floor tom lug made by Slingerland but I can't seem to confirm this despite all of the web searches I've done so far. It's a pretty heavy piece of hardware and the reason that I think it may be a Slingerland is due to the fact the face of the lug and the T-bolts are embossed with the letter "S". Additionally, to me, it appears that the stylization of the "S" on the tension screw is the same as the "S" in the Slingerland logo.

I'm asking the members of VDF for help in identifying what I have here. Please see the pictures below and let me know what you all think. Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Welcome to the VDF Chris, That doesn't look like any Slingerland lug I've seen. It doesn't even look like a lug, looks more like a FT leg mount. Sonor maybe???

It isn't a Slingerland lug but it is S5970 bracket, Slingerland look at this scan. http://www.vintagedrumguide.com/images/slingerland_drum_sets/1992_slingerland_drumsets2-3.jpg

Hi Chris and welcome! Well, Im not positive but those aren't Slingerland lugs you have pictured. they do however look to be some peice of Slingerland hardware fromthe early 90's. Maybe from the Hss spirit series. Good luck!

I think VM2K has this one nailed folks. That bracket is just like the catalog scan, right down to the Mickey Mouse "S" stamped wing screw.

Not a lug at all,but a bracket.....nice catch.

Hello Gentlemen!

Thank you ALL for the feedback/input!

My mistake in terminology. I said "Lug" but did actually mean to use "Floor Tom Bracket" which is actually what I suspected that these were. I just couldn't find anything that looked like these in my own research. Obviously, I guess I didn't look under every stone carefully enough.

On a side note, I'm a bit surprised to learn that Slingerland was still around in the early 90's. I haven't seen them in my neck of the woods since I first started playing back in 1983 or so. At least, none of my local music stores have carried them since then as far as I can recall.

The store that I used to walk to (before I could drive) to get my sticks, heads, etc. used to sell them. However, I specifically remember them telling another guy who wanted to buy a Slingerland kit from them that they weren't making them anymore. Like I said, this was around 1983 or 1984 I think. That store later became a Yamaha and CB700 dealer. After that switched to my local Tama dealer but still frequented all of the other music stores locally here in central Massachusetts and never saw much (if any) Slingerland gear afterwards.

If nothing else it's interesting. Is this a situation similar to what happened with Rogers? The company is sold along with IP and the new owners put out lesser quality knock-offs to sell for the sake of making a profit off of nostalgia. Makes me sick.

Anyhow, thank you again! I really appreciate the help.

Best regards,

ChrisG

Yeah. That was a REALLY bad day! 3 feet of snow with drifts at least double that height and my poor girl busted a connecting rod about 15 minutes into the job. I literally cried. It took me nearly 7 hours to clear that mess with a shovel. Luckily, I found a brand new replacement engine locally and had it swapped out just in time for the next storm.

Isn't that a nice vintage drum story?! x-mas3
