Can snares throws B repaired

Here is what my snare throw looks like super sound king dual strainer

http://www.vintagedrumguide.com/drcjw/article_5_strainers_5super-1.htm

my problem is it won't stay in snare mode while I'm playing, ater a few minutes the throw falls into release of snares and I have a tom tom. I often times use a piece of wire to hold the throw off in snare mode, this is tacky. my question is can this throw be cleaned adjusted to work better or do they wear out over time, I don't think I will find one in better working shape, so any suggestions?

That is a good question. Seems there are a few of us on this forum who have this same drum. Just found out today a set of replacement snares that should work. As to your question,I think the connection does become looser over time as you can see the rod wiggle slightly. I had to use some pliers to close the connection tighter around the center rod. Be very careful as this model seems to be a bit rarer than the later ones. Good luck!!!

That is the same problem I had with my drum back in the 80's which is why I got rid of it. Other than that, it was a superior snare drum. I wish I still had mine.

Here is a few tip's that i have used on these strainers on the throw off side i used a piece of heavy fishing line and tie it to the handle then tie it off the other end to the T-rod..If the "butt side is the problem i used a small lock washer and nut on the rod...These two ways seem to work for me...Mikey

MIke

so you mean bascially tie the line from the latch to a tension rod? correct? to keep it in snare mode, thats alot better than the wire I was using. less noticable. THANKS!

Yes,That way people cannot see the line...You can also replace the handle part of the strainer too...Mikey
