It wasn't a full John Grey & Sons set, just the kick drum. I did consider this however but the hardware on the snare doesn't seem to resemble anything i have seen in the photos of John Grey drums which I have viewed on the net or seen in any of their old catalogs that I have managed to download.

In addition to this, the outline of the badge doesn't seem to match the shape of those I have seen on John Grey drums.

Thanks Jim (and everyone else that contributed), seems like I have myself a Carlton 'Super 20' snare drum dating from the mid 60's.

I really enjoyed browsing that archive of catalogs. Really stylish drums, congrats! Finding that badge to re-grommet will be a "fun" hunt. Best of luck and thanks for sharing that drum. Very interesting.

Yes, it would be nice to find a badge to reapply to the drum but I think that the chancing of locating one are very slim indeed. However, it's great that the drum has been identified and in addition to this I have learnt a little bit more about vintage drums along the way, glad that you found it of interest too.

Thing is I'm now growing curious about the other vintage snare that I mentioned earlier in this thread that was found along with this Carlton. It doesn't seem of very high quality and shows no evidence of ever bearing a badge of any kind. Odd looking skinny snare that's only 2" deep... hmmm.

Lots of vintage pancake snares but I sure can't find any that match that one.. all I can find have lugs.

I'll keeping looking... I love that incredibly simple throw off.

Yeah, the hardware is not exactly the most sophisticated by any means. If you do manage to find any info though Jim I'd be interested to hear back from you.
