Camco vs DW- retrospect Last viewed: 1 hour ago

From DolFan54

According to the DW timeline on their website, they (DW) bought the rights to the pedal in 1977 and reintroduced the 5000 pedal (the catalog number in the Camco catalog). It's listed as 1978 as the start of production of drums. Speaking of catalogs, when did the first Camco catalog come out?

That's what I was referring to. The dw timeline or history...

Sorry, I quoted the wrong poster! I meant to quote Orangemi. So to answer the question my best guess would be 1977 as the last LA Camco drums.

Also the first Camco catalog came out in the late '50's around the same time as George Way (1957).

1957 George Way BDP 26" concert bass drum
1959 George Way BDP 22/12/16 w/ 5.5x14
1959 George Way Green Sparkle 22/12/16 w/5.5x14
1961 George Way Blue Sparkle 20/12/15
1961 George Way Jelly Bean 20/12/14 w/4.5x14
1960’s Camco Oaklawn Champagne 20/12/14/16w/5x14
1971-73 Camco Chanute Walnut 24/14/18 w/5x14 COB

The old Gretsch pedals were made by Camco and identical in every way except for the Gretsch logo foot board or plate. Great pedal!

Not exactly. Tama made Camco pedals are at best a pretty close copy but they never quite captured the feel of the original Martin pedal. Camco however flawlessly and faithfully captured the feel/ action of the Martin pedal when they bought the design. As mentioned above Camco also made the Floating Action pedal for Gretsch.

Although the DW 5000 pedal looks like the Camco pedal, it doesn't feel the same. The DW 9000 actually feels more like the Camco pedal.
