Camco Snare Thow Off Issue

Loading...

Perhaps some of the Vets can offer me advice on this same issue I'm having with two of my Camco snare drums...

On two different wooden Oaklawn snare drums, the snares have a tendency to become disengaged under heavy play.

On one of the strainers the outer 'Aristocrat' housing shell is somewhat loose when not under tension, but the on the other drum the shell is firmly attached. Nontheless, they both seem to suffer from this same issue.

Admittedly, the problem occurs mostly when my son plays (he's a far more talented drummer than I am, but he is ALSO a far heavier hitter).

Any thoughts?

Jeff

Yes that is a common problem with the aristocrat strainer but there is a solution. You need to take the strainer apart. On the arm/lever there is a cam that has a seat where the pin on the sliding bar sits when the strainer is engaged. That seat is not very deep and is fine if your playing with brushes but once you give it a good ole back beat the wires will disengage. Take a grinder and form a deeper seat for the pin to sit in. It doesn't take much. I've done this to all my Camco snare drums and now the lever actually "snaps" into place when the wires are engaged.

If you don't feel comfortable doing this yourself you can send them to me and I will do them for a small fee plus shipping both WAYs.
