Camco Shell Questions Last viewed: 11 hours ago

I just picked up some Camco shells with Chanute, KS badges.

I've attached a few picks of the bass drum shell.

Can somebody please tell me whether this is a Jasper shell or a Keller?

Also, I'm "brain dead" when it comes to determing plies.DOH

Any help in that regard would also be greatly appreciated.

THANKS in advance for your time and your help!

Looks like the number of Camco "experts" out there might be extremely limited, just like the drums themselves. Anybody?

My Chanute set is 9 ply (at least at the reinforcement rings), but I don't know if they're jasper or Keller.

Chanute shells are 6 ply Jasper with rings, same as later Oaklawn.

Thanks,

Bill

That is correct!

Oaklawn = Jasper shells - 4 ply early - mid 60's, 6 ply mid 60's to '71. Although there are a few 3 ply shells out there as well.

Chanute = Jasper 6 ply shells - '71-'73

Los Angeles = Keller 6 ply shells '71-'78

When DW took over they continued to use Keller shells. There are also rumors that when Tama bought the name in '78 they bought up the maple shells and built their drums using those shells. If that is true they would be 6 ply Keller shells. However every time I have read this from Tama fans they state that the shells are 6 ply Jasper which would not be the case.
