Camco Oaklawn Score

I never check a certain area of the states CL very often because it is an hour drive and it is rare for anything good to pop up. But a few weeks ago I had the feeling I should. I opened it up and found an ad for "Camco Drumset, Great for Beginners-$300".

Well my immediate thought was that it was going to be one of those Camco By Tama's that were produced in the 80's using Swingstar shells and the Camco name to sell them.

Open up the link and see pictures of a Ebony stain Camco set. There wasn't much info, but I could see the "cloud" badge so I knew it was a real Camco but wasn't sure what era.

Immediately contacted the seller and was at his place in a matter of 2 hours. Sure enough the 70's seemed to have stolen the resonant heads, hoops, ect. But looking at the set I started to notice things that he was selling with it.

-OAKLAWN BADGE

-1967 Supraphonic

-15" Vintage Zildjian hats

-20" Vintage Zildjian ride

-Camco pedal

-2 flat base Ludwig cymbal stands, a spur lock hi hat stand, vintage ludwig throne with the original cushion

- and a Sabian B8 lol

And after a second of being there he says "oh and I found these, you probably want them" and hands me the original tom resonant hoops and the original tom resonant heads.

Well of course I bought them!

Wow, your lucky! So what are the drum sizes? Are the correct spurs on the bass drum? It looks like it was fitted with a Rogers Tom holder and mount. Did you get the bass drum tom holder? Don't mean to bombard you wih questions but that is a nice set. I would take it completely apart and clean every part meticulously. Looks like it will clean up excellent!

If you did not get the Tom arm mount, I would find one for sure.

Thank you!

Yes the spurs are correct.

It was fitted with a Rogers Tom mount, I have the Swivomatic mounts and arm I just haven't put it all back on yet, to excited about playing it lol

They are 13", 16", 20"

I have gone through the 13" very thoroughly and am excited to see the 16 and 20 with some TLC, they are bumped and scratched but they are beautiful regardless.

You can probably smooth out or buff those scratches with something that you won't even notice them. You can make that kit look like new. I'm excited for you.

Can't wait to see them all cleaned and polished up.

Nice, but just something about this makes me feel guilty. Probably because I was raised Catholic, but still..

The seller was probably the one who asked for "expert advice" from that JustAnswer site. CryBaby (see thread below)

http://www.vintagedrumforum.com/showthread.php?t=41158

The Supra alone is worth more than $300. You got extremely lucky on this one. You've used up your one and only vintage drum deal card that was given to you at birth.

I'm sure the seller's phone was ringing off the hook. I bet the other interested parties also shared how much they would have paid too.
