Camco Oaklawn 6.5x14 Score! Last viewed: 2 hours ago

NICE! Cleaned up nice as well!.

As for the t rod splay: I've seen two snares that had the bass drum risers under those lugs. I've always wondered who had the idea to put those on, but it sure cures the splay problem.

I've never looked, but I would assume those riser plates are not easy to find.

Out of my 35 + snare drums this one is easily within the top 5 or 6. It sounds amazing!

The rod spay is on both directions. It's a real challenge to get the tension rods lined up correctly.

Very nice, but why are the strainer mount holes so far up on the shell, so close to the batter head?

I too just bought an Oaklawn 6.5x14" in Natural maple, no extra holes but unfortunately it's a 4 ply shell from the early 60s...The strainer holes are where they should be. I 'll try and post pic's.

Roger - Look at the two snare drums. The one in ebony stain is an early Oaklawn. There are differences with the strainer location being one of them. Although it looks weird, the strainer mounted up high puts the lever where it should be when playing the drum. The one I don't understand is why they moved the location of the tone control. Camco moved that location near the end of Oaklawn and it remained like that throughout the Chanute era. LA moved the location once again during that era.

I've seen others with the strainer mounted like that I just wondered why so high up, and I guess it would make it much easier mounted like that.

Here's one in basically the same location.

Mine has the tone control to the right of the badge when facing the snare and the strainer two panels over to the right of the badge.

It also appears it was once wrapped and then refinished so no collector value but it does sound good. Much softer sounding than the one Ryan built for me.

Steve, I believe I have some 14" 8lug hoops for you, Late 1960s Oaklawn.

or Chanute w/o any peeling chrome...Lol...

I just traded a couple of sets of late 60s Oaklawn era and I still have the 14s if you need them? No charge, just reimburse shipping.

I uploaded pictures of my new 6.5x14" Oaklawn era snare drum on the DFO, this site wouldn't work for the iphone upload for some certain reason.

Nice snares Steve. The new one turned out very well. Just curious what your strainers look like on the insides and how they mount on the shells. So far mine is completely different from all the others i have seen.
