Camco LA Drum Kit Last viewed: 10 hours ago

Hi all,

I'm curious as to what a going rate would be for an 8 piece kit. I've looked at Ebay and other various sources, but would love a forums opinion. (I'm on forums for cars so I like the "people's aspect" of a discussion.

I can't find anything close to this kit as well online.

What I have:

Snare 15x7

Brass Snare 14x6.5 (holy rare, I've never seen another brass snare by camco)

Bass 25 (might be 26)x16

Toms

13.5x 9/8

14 3/8x10 1/4

15.5x12 1/4

16.5x16

18.5x16 3/4

Cases for all, made by Anvil. And a trap case. Came with some oem parts too. Ghost kick pedal, camco hardware, etc etc. Condition wise ranges from holy crap wow, to man...that has been gigged. The 18" tom booms more than todays kick drums, lol! I've been toying with the idea of selling since my shoulder prevents me from playing. Yet, when I hit the darn thing it pains me to think of it.

Welcomed input on the subject.

Thanks in advance for your time guys!

L.A. Camco's were the last of the true Camco's before the company being split and different parts sold. DW got Camco's inventory and manufacturing equipment, while Tama would receive the Camco name, the original design blueprints, and engineering rights.

Should all have clear interiors. If you measure the inside of the drum from inside hoop to opposite, that rounded to the nearest size should give you what you have, but guessing from what you supplied:

26x14 bass drum, 13x9, 14x10, 15x12 toms and 16x16, 18x16 floor toms. Pictures help, condition does affect prices.

Sell it as a whole, it deserves that. Just out of curiosity, where are you located if one wanted to see the kit in person if you sell it?

Its better to have people think you're an idiot, than to open your mouth and prove them wrong, unless you doubt yourself then speak away....

I'm out in Portland Oregon.

Ironically, there is another Camco set for sale here too! Funny how I've never seen another kit and when I entertain the idea of selling mine one turns up! lol!

I knew the story of the Camcos as well. During my hs years a local drum guru about crapped his pants (like most do), when they see/hear of the kit.

Yes, they have the dry interiors. So awesome. Immaculate on all the insides. Only one drum has a couple scratches (goes across the badge too, darn it). So am I safe to assume that drums do not fall into the same genre of guitars when it comes to vintage? (guitars that show worn, cracks, knicks, use don't affect price). Some of them do need to be cleaned. They were stored for the last ten years in the cases and the foam inside the cases are just dissolved. So it created a sticky mess on some of them. I even discovered and remembered that I had some new heads and NEVER used them! lol! Sounds amazing.

I must be crazy to sell, but...whattya do. Shoulder pain=not playing.

any idea ballpark price wise?

I'll try to get some pics. They do need to be cleaned off. My only concern is: Do I gut out the cases with the bad foam. Or do I let a buyer deal with it and have them clean it with what they're comfortable using. (been told over the years to not touch em', just wipe with a cloth. Same with the cymbals (sold, btw).

L.A. Camco are the least desirable but they are probably the best built as far as quality control goes of all the eras. Big drums are a hard sell and usually don't get as much as one would hope for. I sold my L.A. kit in 24/12/13/15/16 w/5x14 snare for $1700 (I was trying to get $2500) and that was when the economy was good.

My best guess is that your kit would fetch in the $1500-$2000 range not including the brass snare drum. COB snares are not rare but the 6.5x14s are! That should be the one drum you could get some good money on. I would do Ebay on the COB snare and do the kit locally if you don't want to ship.
