That was really solid of Revival to send you a drum to inspect. Almost unheard of in today's world.

I am absolutely no expert and I shouldn't have been as certain about that wrap being original. I'm sure my reason for thinking so was the size of the 3D pattern. The original 3D was larger than the 3D in on my Tuxedo re-wrap. This kit that was at Revival (is it still there?) appeared to have the larger pattern like the original 3D. However, I recently read a Facebook post that seemed to suggest there are two different 're-issue' 3D Moire products available (or at least were available). The smaller pattern like my Tuxedo kit and a larger pattern that, perhaps, is what is on the Revival kit.

It's great that the experts in collecting are so willing to educate and assist us newer guys ..

I am fortunate to have a couple of Oaklawn Sets so I know the level of quality of their finished product.. Upon getting a very large amount of photos from revival I noted a lot of chip out around the interior lug hardware although the vent hole grommets seemed to be untouched I know that the interior of this set build was sloppier then I was accustomed to.....also the edge of the 3d moire laminate seemed uneven and ragged in spots..... there were actually areas of bearing edge that looked like they were rasped on the outside. So knowing this set would be a very rare find but also not willing to take any risks with that amount of $$$ I informed Revival of my doubts of originality... they started questioning these points also ... so they offered to send me the worst shell (one of the mounted toms that had worn chrome plating on the mount and anumber of chip outs on the interior and some bearing edge question...when I received the shell I felt even more in doubt ...but still wanting the set I got intouch with Mr. Joe Louma noted Camco authority... after he reviewed the many pics I sent him and new pics I took he agreed woth me that this set was not of a standard quality Camco Build level ...even on their worst day... That was all I needed to hear he also told me he wouldn't advise I purchase them because of stated questionable issues. I notified Revival of my findings and sent the tom back and that was the end of that...

THE MORAL OF THIS STORY IS WHEN AN ITEM IS EXPENSIVE AND IN DEMAND DUE TO SHORT SUPPLY WE AS COLLECTORS NEED TO DO OUR HOMEWORK OR GET RIPPED OFF.

I ALSO WANT TO STATE THAT WE ALL WANTED THIS SET TO BE AUTHENTIC AND REVIVAL DRUMS DID EVERYTHING IN THEIR POWER TO ASSIST ME IN FINDING OUT THE ANSWERS I NEEDED TO MAKE AN EDUCATED DECISION...THEIR TRUST IN ME AND THEIR KINDNESS IN SENDING THE TOM FOR ME TO INSPECT WITHOUT EVEN A CREDIT CARD ON RECORD SPEAKS VOLUMES..YES I WOULD CERTAINLY RECOMMEND DOING BUSINESS WITH REVIVAL AFTER THIS INTERACTION WITH THEM.

Thanks for sharing this backstory. Good on you for taking the lead to verify this set's originality, and good on Revival for being the stellar drum shop and all around good guys that they are.
