Calling ROGERS masters...come in! Last viewed: 5 hours ago

Hey guys, I am sure you have heard this question hundreds of times, and answered at least 2 hundred times! Before you stick a 7A nylon up my nose, please get me some information....then my nose is up for grabs!

I purchased a red glass glitter 20,12,12,16 which I believe by a previous post to be a "Top Hat" kit. I picked the kit up last night, but early this AM flew to Mexico for work, so I really didn't have a chance to go over the kit with a fine tooth comb as of yet. I did however take a look through the vents, and wrote down some tag information, thus this thread. From what it appears, it looks to be all original, as I learned it was purchased from the original owner, but YOU know as well as I....stories change for a big sale! The tags read:

16" floor 67025 Dayton

12" ride 67399 Dayton

12" ride 10075 Cleveland??

20" bass 64868 Dayton

Can this be a matched kit....or an added 12" ride? The photo shows the tom mount, and I believe it is factory, but can not confirm. Can you give me an idea of when it was made? Thank you so much....now I will get ready for the thrashing.....just sticks please...stones HURT!

I'm not a Rogers Master (but I own a few), and I also don't use 7AN sticks (I use 747N Oak actually).

Be that as it may, it seems your suspicions are correct. I would guess that the Dayton drums are the original set, and a second ride tom and appropriate mount was added later, even thought the 'added' tom is an older Cleveland drum.

The others will be along shortly, but that seems very plausible. Thank God they didn't drill any new holes in that bass drum!

Sweet kit!

Pic of the Cleveland Tag. I am thinking its a crossed out tag with Holiday written in. Secondly....... does one of those drums have two ROGERS logos on the outside? The Dayton numbers range in the realm of possibility for a Cleveland tag to be with them. Thirdly, Depending on where it was purchased originally, it is definitely possible for the wrong 12" drum to be included in the set. Fourth... I dont believe that double mount would have been in use by 1967. One person who will know is DanC.

Appreciate the comments, and info!

Don't believe (as the kit is at home, and I am in Mexico) that the Cleveland tag had anything crossed out. Could be wrong however, but all of them said Holiday as printed...?? Both the ride toms have only one logo on them...was funny to be as one was facing the throne, and not the reso head on the bass.

Question: You state that you don't believe the "double mount" would have been in use by 1967? Is this when the numbers to the Dayton tags, put this kit? Thanks again to everyone!

It prolly started its life as a single tom set up and rather than drilling an oversized hole, the person added that Cleveland era dual tom mount. Very smart, as he could always return to a single tom if he wanted and without any damage. The bass looks like theres something is wrong with the color. The tag on the Cleveland tom has 2 issues. For starters the numbers on Clv era tags only goes up to 62xxx. My guess {if the number is correct} is it is a Dayton era w/ spec gray paint and added at a later date. The londoner came out in mid 66 and that style of mast was done away with then. That mast was produced between 63-early 66 and usually only associated with Cleveland era drums. Im interested in it if you decide you want to part with it.

The "color" of the bass is a refection from the picture. The set total looks like the toms. I received a couple pictures before picking them up, and I asked the same question. As far as the 12" Cleveland tom...The interiors are all flat grey in color. I did notice however that the washers inside were different than the other one...like one was larger than the other (on each lug) and the Dayton ones looked to be the same size??

I believe that you may have a Londoner outfit (two toms with the t-bar type of swivomatic dual tom mount) that someone changed to a top hat outfit by substituting the earlier dual tom mount that you have. The same hole pattern in the bass drum would have worked. This bass drum never had a single tom mount as far as i can tell from the pictures. The position of the swivomatic plate would have been different for a single tom outfit. It is also quite possible that you have an actual top hat outfit, with the two 12 in. toms. It would have been a very late issue one though. By the late Cleveland era the top hat dual tom mount had been replaced by the t-bar double tom mount. It still is a really nice find you have there!

John,

you are saying by around 65 the Top Hat mount was gone?

My very first Rogers kit had that mount..........I'm thinking it was a 1964 kit..Beavertails and bowties..

Liked the Splash provision in the middle, but not the toms bouncing all over the place when you played!Mind Blowi
