c. 1960 Gretsch Max Roach Prog. Jazz 4x14 snare; 40s - early 50s Zildjian 14'' Hats Last viewed: 54 minutes ago

1. Gretsch Max Roach / Progressive Jazz snare in a very early champagne sparkle configuration (it has the older badge with the small sticks and curved "drum makers").

When I got this snare it had been covered for years with contact paper. In addition a previous owner had taken tape and stradled each side of the drum with it.

The positive aspects of the tape and the contact paper are that the condition of the bearing edges is really good and there is not much fade on the wrap.

The bad is that a previous owner thought black paint would look good on the inside. Fortunately the black paint was applied after the tape job so much of the original silver paint can still be seen.

The badge is original to the drum but was being held in by a nut and bolt if I recall (no damage to the drum) and so I obtained a new grommet and reset the original badge.

Muffler is missing but it will take any vintage Gretsch muffler. No extra holes. The hardware is fairly pitted.

No snare wires (they were junk from the 70s so got thrown out). Includes original slot drum key.

$475 plus actual shipping in the Continental US. If anyone in Europe is interested in the snare (or the hi hats below) let me know in the next week as that is where the snare is right now--I will be bringing it back to America mid-October.

2)40s - early 50s Zildjian 14'' Hi Hats. Not factory matched. One cymbal is early to mid 40s with the Arabic writing part stamped upside down. 648g. The other is a very early 50s trans stamp. 697g.

The older cymbal has beautiful hand hammering but is so thin that it's bent out of shape some. It also has a slightly oblong hole.

I got these as part of a deal for a 64 Ludwig Downbeat set from the original owner. He thought they were new hi hats that he got with his set--but apparently not!

I have no idea what the reasonable value of these would be. Instead, ideally I would like to trade them for some sort of Ringo-ish 20" ride / crash (or maybe 18?). I like vintage A Zildjians but anything that has a healthy does of the 60s sound for a ride/crash would be fine with me.

Sorry about that David. I've cleared the box up now so please try resending.

My office is in London so feasibly I could bring the drum up from where I live on the Continent and send from there. But it would have to be November for reasons I can discuss offline.
