it looks like to me from my thread on n.r.p.s. that i got snookered into buying a set of drums of nefarious character and it is just not sitting good with me, i have had things stolen 2 harleys drums and other items over time, as being 62 i been there and done that and do not i repeat do not buy (knowingly) hot goods its against my nature so when some one come's on the vdf to set bragging rights about a hot kit it really stinks especially if its one i have bought

even though i have the permission of Mr. Shanahan witch its a 3rd party saying that (its still not him ) i really hate this and im not using the word lightly i am trying to figure out what to do here any ideas ?

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

My question is what you do if you purchase an item in good faith ,only to find out after the fact there is a good chance it's stolen.

Gary, If it was me I would first have a visit with a lawyer and see what your legal responsibilities are. Once you know that you are legally in the clear then you can deal with the emotional side and figure out how you want to proceed.

I know you have spoken with or written Mr. Shanahan's contact regarding this. Of course, this contact I believe is only a webmaster. It would be good to try and figure out how to contact Mr. Shanahan directly. At that point he can tell you personally what his thoughts are.

This kind of thing has very sticky moral implications much more so than legal ones as I am quite sure the statute of limitations has long since lapsed. It speaks volumes of your character that you would be concerned about this. The story is very interesting and you have done nothing wrong. See if you can contact the original owner and decide what to do from there.

Ok folks,we went through this not to long ago, concerning a stolen Slingy kit.

Here's the legal deal.Forget lawyers.Buying stolen property, you know to be stolen is illegal.Criminal possession of stolen property is ...illegal.

There is NO statute of limitations on criminal possession of stolen property, because,it's an ongoing crime. You can ,at any time be arrested ,and prosecuted for posessing stolen property.

Forget snookered,if you have those drums in your posession, you're comitting a crime, especially if you know the're stolen.Thats a fact.

This is coming from a retired NYPD detective, telling you the laws are the same in almost all states.

It's not worth it.trust me.Just bad mojo at the best Gary.Walk away,no run away. This is NOT worth the hassle,I don't care what anybody says.If they xtell cyou something else, the're an idiot......period.

Trust me here, don't listen to what anybody else tells you..divest yourself ......NOW

so how do i do that im out 1600 $ and the guy who sold them to me is laughing all the way ha ha ha, the funny thing is Patrick can not 100 % say those are his drums so there is no positive id, this is all in theory as he recalls they were the only slingy kit he owned...and most of the kit is legitimate addons i hope! well its all good according to patrick read other post on nrps

Tried to contact Gary to no avail... Offered to give him his money back with NO problem. (contrary to what he believes I am NOT" laughing". He was having buyers remorse before he even purchased them. (I have all of the texts and emails to support that)... (Technically they could be considered property of the Insurance company who paid the claim against them almost 40 years ago but again I'm offering to relieve the man of these financial burdens however I guess he chooses not to respond other than this forum. I truly wanted Patrick's kit to find a good home where everyone could see it and gain insight on his life, the band, and the general events surrounding it....Sad really. I guess there are those who just want a get rich quick scheme.... Oh well, I'm still willing to work it out like grown ups.
