Two buyers recently became victims of a vintage drum fraud. The seller's name is Justin Nelson and he is working out of a small town in the Southern Interior of B.C. Canada.
Harry's information was sent to me today. He is one of the victims. A second set of drums that contained a fake Dynasonic snare drum - sold by Justin - recently showed up in B.C. Both Dynasonic snare drums, one red sparkle and one blue sparkle, were thoroughly examined by Vintage Rogers drum experts and were found to be without a doubt fakes.
I asked Harry if he would mind if I posted this here and he said please do. He went on to say this information needs to be out there as a warning NOT to buy from this person he cannot be trusted.
HARRY'S STORY as mailed to me today:
The blue sparkle Rogers with the faked DS is back in BC. They arrived yesterday, I have spoken to eBay and PayPal and they will see me whole if Justin does not refund. It was a dirty deal -the snare has 14 plies (a DS has 10 between shell and reinforcing ring)--the lugs were springless and too new, there was no tone control, the shell was all maple, the badge serial number too high, no difference between the shell under a lug and out in the open. Some poor bass drum gave up a piece of plastic to be glued on a newer Keller shell and then a donor DS metal snare gave up its parts. I could still smell the interior finish which would not happen with the Fruitwood stain Rogers used 47 years ago. From a distance and without inspection, it was a good forgery. Two guys from your neck of the woods warned me about Justin Nelson and that's why I took the snare drum apart. I was furious and I will be out $400 to ship the damn things back! Spread the word--he is not trustworthy in my opinion.
