Buddy Rich Snare drum on.... Last viewed: 4 hours ago
that snare's been on cl for over a year that i can recall.
from what i read on some other forum a long time ago, it was a prototype gms made for the people at b.r.. in hopes of getting the account to make the line of drums.
for whatever reason it didn't happen. if anyone else has more info i've love to hear it as well.
Mike, I did see a Buddy Rich Drum Co. floor tom on ebay a few weeks ago. It was the first BRDC drum I had ever seen. I dont think the badge looked like the one on the snare. I know this information is no help, just thought Id mention it.

This snare drum has absolutely NOTHING to do with Buddy Rich... outside of the fact that it was an attempt to perhaps offer a snare drum in the "Buddy Rich image", if you will. Might even go as far as saying that it's a commemorative model that GMS was testing the waters with. Either way... NOT a Buddy Rich, nor was it ever a model he played, especially considering the fact that he passed in April of 1987. The badge is a well known imprint/copy of a popular "Buddy Rich One of a kind" logo that found it's way onto a variety of different things including t-shirts.. practice pads.. mugs.. etc. Not sure WHO owns the licensing for that image though.
The Buddy Rich Drum Company offerings are much the same. MIJ manufactured drums put out to try and gain a little market share off of Buddy's name. BR's daughter Cathy was part of the controlling interest in this company originally. I do believe that they are now OOB. The drums were not made all that well, and no one ever seemed to be knocked out with them. They do come up for sale on eBay with decent regularity... but never seem to sell.

Here ya go!...
As mentioned prior... long OOB... but an interesting venture for Cathy at the time.

As always, Tommyp can be counted on to get the scoop for any and all things "Buddy"!
