Buddy Rich on a Bop kit

Loading...

This footage is new to me :

[ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zAOENW1CCl8&list=RDzAOENW1CCl8#t=856"]Hawkins, Parker, Lester, Buddy, Ella - Jam Session, 1950 - YouTube[/ame]

You can see the kit at 3:22

What sizes were those drums ? Would drums that small have been rare in 1950 ?

There's a good shot of Buddy playing the Buddy Rich BeBop snare with Charlie Parker at 1:20 - pretty cool in my books, though the audio was obviously pre-recorded.

From what I've heard about that piece of film, Buddy had the kit made up especially for the occasion and it was his idea of a "dig" at the smaller sized sets being played by the Be Boppers. I don't recall seeing footage of him actually playing a BOP sized kit.

FYI

Never play it the same way once.
