you'll just have to acquire enough of them to tell the difference to me its a stop sign the difference in the two, look at the lugs not the rims!

Those two make it very clear. Thanks!

I must not own any nickel drums (other than this one student model RK that I am restoring that is OBVIOUSLY worn nickel). I always thought it was harder to tell than that....in that I thought the difference was less obvious on drums in nice shape. They do look very different though.

Thanks for all your help VM. You the man! Let me know if you ever come across a 3 pt with any sort of reasonable price tag. I know...probably won't happen! Either way, this drum is gonna get rocked and I am just going to keep replacing lugs as they blow out.

Adam, always glad to help on ole Rks, also the old chrome doesn't look like modern chrome, how many lugs have you had blown up on you? I've had it happen to me, it will freak you out when it happens, just a word here the new Import replacements are well built but the hole threads are metric not english threading, so if your able just use OEM parts less headache.

None yet, but it sounds like it happens if you play these things with much tension. Got my eyes out for a few replacements just to have on hand. I see some are on ebay right now.

Thanks again for the help!

Adam, the double sided lugs like yours and mine hold up very well, it's the single sided ones you have to watch out for, this pic here this Rk, I had to replace them with the repros, also this is a 7" deep snare your being a 6.5 doesn't have as much stress as this 7" one would have.

Only one now this 1937 Gene Krupa model, I've sold the other two one a late 30's and the early 40's model, this one is almost perfectly in round as is the best sounding one to my ear! the last pic is the one I sold to my good buddy kevin, In fact that's how we meet! I was going to ask you how out of round is your shell? I never seen one of this vintage that is perfectly in round yet?

Havent really checked it out yet. It seems to sound great so I didnt even think to really see how close it is. Im sure it isnt perfect, though the rings arent separated really at all so...

I have 5 now...but none are in factory shape sadly. They all sound great though!

57/58 Student Model (working on a finish restore but all original nickel parts are present and wires are original)

Mid-50's BDP--5x14---clamshell---missing bottom hoop---3 ex holes from a zoomy. I have 70's hoops on it and puresound extended wires. Sounds great.

40's 7x14 Green Sparkle non original throw/butt two ex holes-sounds killer. Finish is a little beat up.

1936 (ish) WMP we have been talking about 6.5x14

1961 Student RK-5x14-Black Lacquer refin-all original hardware.

I really dig the sound of these drums! It would be nice to get an all original example with no ex holes though!

When you get a chance see if the heads will rotate freely on the shell, if where counting Rk student models I've lost count on those, I have two others right now a blue silver duco and a Mahogany finish one, both are 60's here's are some pics of them.

That deeper mahogany student model looks super nice! I'll check out the head rotation when I get a sec. The head fits a little tight because it's a new REMO so it might be tough to tell exactly. I'll give it a shot!
