I decided to strip and re-work one of the first shells I stripped and restored about 3 years ago.

(I originally built this shell in 1979, I was not qualified at the time, although I thought I was.) Yeah 1979!

I can do it better now. I think?

This drum was always a little "flappy sounding/stick attack on plastic" with head kinda loose.

Changes:

Leg Mounts Removed. Holes filled. "I know"

Lug lines straightened.

More air vents. 4 now. Vents alligned.

Re-sanded. New finish complete natural. A little tint on filled holes.

New straight 1.6 hoops.

World Max suspension ring. " nobody likes these" but me.

It finally opened up. Real big tonal boom.

Those things work the same way the air-cusioned feet work, they isolate the drum from direct contact with the floor. Which is where a lot of the resonance of floor toms gets lost. I say, if it works, use it! Sounds like the new mount opened up the drum for you and that's the real bottom-line, how good the drum sounds.

BTW, The new Jenkins/Martin kits are fantastic.

(and maybe better than the Blaemire Legacys)

More consistency and those dudes are like fr****en scientists.

There is 1 in your future someday.

I use the Pearl suspension feet on my Blaemire floor toms, and they work great. At one point I was going to go with one of those mounts, but I heard they cause problems fitting in bags/cases.
