On my Premier Burgundy Pearl kit,the guy played the 8 by 14 tom with just the top head on for a while it looks like..must have really cranked that head down!
The center holes on 3 of the long lugs are ovaled..almost 1/2" on 2!
What works best to fill those in?
I have a friend that works with fine wood,and was thinking of having him save some Mahogany dust,and mix with some epoxy ,and fill in the holes a bit.
Or,is there some excellent wood filler out there?

I've used hammerite "plastic wood" before. It did the job. It applies like putty, and dries hard like wood.

I have found that a lot of antique restorers of wooden objects of art prefer Minwax Wood Filler. I have tried it myself and have found it to be a very good product...hard, drillable and sandable as well . I have tried it on many items such as tables, chairs and wooden toys and have always been pleased.

The best stuff I found for filling extra holes in drum shells is QuickWood wood repair epoxy putty made by "PSI", Polymeric Systems Inc. I found this stuff at Rockler woodworking and it works great for this very thing. It comes in a tube and it is a putty that you cut a portion off and knead together to mix it. Then you can form, fill and shape it by hand. When it cures solid you can sand and even re-drill it if you like. Best thing is its a tan "natural" wood color too. Worked wonders on small extra holes in the last Slingerland project I did. Great stuff, easy to work with and reasonably priced too.
Once this starts, it will eventually oval out again. Fill the oval as best as you can (it will fall out at some point) and glue the backer washer (JUST the washer) with an epoxy glue in place. Don't let glue ooze out of the wrapped side, clean hole with Q-tip, keep it clear. Once it dries that will keep the lug from moving. Just make a point of tuning the bottom head first on this one.
