For me, I prefer a very delicate and dry snare for bop.

For Trad, I prefer a wide open resonant snare.

You can fill in the blanks with the great variety of snares that would satisfy those requirements.

I ask because I have a favorite snare for bop, it's a DW Craviotto solid maple, and it's really sensitive and sounds great but I've heard a lot about copper and brass snares and that sound.

I have a 1926-1928 Ludwig Universal snare, which is a brass snare. It's pretty dry for a brass snare, but still has that complex brass shell sound. That's my go to jazz snare. If I want a woody sound, I have a Slingerland tone flange that has had the bearing edge cut down (so there are no holes from the screws in it). Solid mahogany with maple reinforcing rings, aged 85 years...not bad!
