Bearing edge repair

Loading...

I have a 1965 Slingerland 16x16 FT that has a little delamination of the plys next to the bearing edge. I would normally just little it ride since the edge itself is in good condition, but I am having issues with the drum having a weird ring to it. I've tried all different tunings, heads, and moon gels, but I can't get rid of the ringing. So I want to try to fix the wood seperation and see if it helps.

That being said, is there a glue or epoxy that works best? I want to try and fix it without having to do anything to the edge itself. For all my other woodworking, I normally just use Titebond II. Would that be a good choice.

Any other tips?

I've used Titebond II and Titebond III to repair separated plies and reinforcing rings with good results.

The tite bond II did the trick. I slightly pulled the plys apart and forced the glue in. Clamped it overnight and by morning it was good as new. It also eliminated the ringing noise that was bothering me.

Titebond is a great general purpose wood glue... I belive the II variety is moisture resistant when dry.
