We all like to invite friends and relatives to our gigs, but when I invited my cousin out and looked into the crowd at my last gig and saw my 89 year old aunt sitting next to my her, I thought to myself, oh boy. I noticed they were in the front row 15 feet away from a wall of 5 million watt speakers. I approached them and thanked them for coming, and said to them “I don’t think you should sit there” when they looked at me confused I knew right away they had no idea what they were in for. Then I remembered when talking to my cousin about my band, I did not remember her saying she listened to any of our music on our web site. I thought to myself, maybe they think I’m in some kind of Frank Valli Tribute band????.
So I went back on stage, and during our sound check I saw the look on my aunt’s face, which was one of shock and confusion.
Then when we started, and our guitar player broke out with Jimi Hendrix’s rendition of the Star Spangled Banner from woodstock, which led right into Foxy Lady, about half way through the song, they both disappeared. To make things worse, I told my wife what happened and she said “see, I told you that you guys play too loud, no wonder they left”
So goes rock n roll …….
