Bass mount cymbal arm. Old Atlas? Last viewed: 19 minutes ago

Loading...

I picked up some clearance hardware parts from a local music store a while back and got what I thought was the upper telescoping and the lower L-rod parts for a Ludwig bass drum mounted cymbal holder.

Upon closer inspection the tilter portion is far different than the regular ludwig ones. It actually looks like the old Atlas cymbal stand tilters.

Is this from an old standard ludwig set? Is this hard to find? I had always assumed they used the 60's style tilters (like on the flat based stands).

Also the knurling on the L-rod doesn't look like ludwigs, any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Standard sets used the same arm as other Ludwig sets of the day so that's not where this is from.

There was an heavy duty Atlas cymbal arm produced by Ludwig at one time but I'm not sure that's it either. The lower part, the "L" rod doesn't look like the typical Ludwig part with the splined section and the tapered end. Might not be a Ludwig arm at all.

After looking around online, the lower L-rod looks to be slingerland.

I think slingerland is correct, the Ludwig ones I've seen dont have the machined groove up top

Here is the other side of the ratchet.

The barcode sticker says

"Northridge music

ludwig

Ludacces

Center tube w/ratchet

$24.68"

But it looks to be a store barcode, and as I recall it didn't work anyway.

Which parts do you have?

Oddly my '67 ludwig set did not come with a bass mount cymbal holder, some call it a classic deluxe. So I don't really need a ludwig one as I won't drill the shell. But you never know what I might buy down the line.

My Leedy (Slingerland) set has the bracket and now, I guess the L rod.

Looks like I'm on the hunt for slingy parts and I have Luddy parts up for trade.

That's a Deluxe Classic outfit. Same as the Super Classic (13/16/22) but came with two 1400 cymbal stands and therefore they deleted the shell mount cymbal holder. Later on the Deluxe came with Atlas stands in place of the flat base ones. I recently bought a 1968 Deluxe Classic set in Burgundy sparkle.

I don't recall if the Atlas version of the shell mount cymbal holder ever made it into one of the full line Ludwig catalogs but I know it was in at least one of the parts catalogs. I'll see if I can track it down tonight. That lower rod most likely is a Slingy part, or at least not a Ludwig.
