Bass Drum Mystery Last viewed: 21 minutes ago

I posted a few of these photos here before Christmas. The person that has this drum does not have background information and does not know what it is. It has some interesting lugs. Trouble is there is one that's broken and it may be next to impossible to replace.

He wants $75 for it. It's worth that to me to take it apart, clean it and put it back together.

If anyone here recognizes what it is or where I can get parts please let me know. I don't have it yet.....I called him a few minutes ago - he still has it and I told him I'll take it. I'm a real sucker for this stuff. When I retire I'm not going to be able to afford buying drums like this.........so I'm "stocking up" now.

From what Ive read Meazzys used to build that kind of lugs but Im not sure if the drums its a Meazzy...I would offer $50.00 the guy and find out in time...you know: like an amateur hunter: you shoot and then ask the questions...Excited...

I think it's 23 or 25 or so.....I did measure it the first time I saw it but can't remember. It has a calfhide on one side I think.

He was asking $150 for it - I countered with $75 and he said he couldn't take less than $120 for it.....that was before Christmas.

I went back to the shop last week and asked again what he'd take for it. He said $75. $50 does seem to be more reasonable but I think he likes sitting stuff on it in his store - looks cool he say's - so I think it's worth $75 or more to him just to have it look good in the store. That's the feeling I get when I chat with him. He's also got this Slingerland Parade drum there and he want's $110 for that. Someone here - another thread - pointed out that the reso hoop is Ludwig. It's a nice drum......maybe it's worth what he's asking. I don't know much about Slingerland though.

The broken lug seems to be something that a small engineering firm could easily remake. The kind of firms making stuff for hotrod motorcycles and so on.
