Bass Drum Id?

I need some help identifying a bass drum - I have no photo right now - just a description.

No badge or other marks. 22" I think....calfhide heads....The interior was that Luana-like (mahogany) vertical woodgrain = not the horizontal grain like most wood shells. No spurs but it did have a tom mount post.

This is the interesting part that you may be able to help with:

There are 8 t-rods...small faucet-type (and inch or so faucet heads) t-rods. These t-rods - once they're loosened bend away from the drum shelll on a hinge. I'll try to get a photo later. This drum is in an antique store priced at $120. The finish is a silver sparkle.

Any help here would be great. I know - a photo would help but I did not have my cell phone with me today.

I did buy a Stuart Snare - WMP finish for $40. Damn - I thought I was finished buying drums!

PIX

I went back to the store and took these..

The bd has no id marks/badge - nothing inside either and no leg spurs (could have had the clamp-ons at one time though. I don't know if this is an after market tom holder too.

Thoughts on this? The little t-rod setup interested me.

Nother subject....

I also picked up a 16" Ludwig Ft and HS case.....another thread coming up.

Gary, I think the drum maybe a M.I.J.drum...I have seen that tom mount and claws,t-rods on a no name M.I.J. drums. But the lugs i have never seen are the lugs open on top? They look that way in the photo almost like a piece on bent metal with a insert for the T-rod to screw into..Mikey

Yes - they're open and hinged - allowing them to fold out away from the drum when you loosen the hooks from the hoop.

You can see it better here:

Gary, The lugs look like the ones Remo made on their line of PTS drums in the 80's..If you go to Non-USA drums on the forum amd check out members ElMoonlightdrummer-post on "Need help to ID bass drum" you will see the same T-rods and claws that are on this bass drum also the grommet looks the same...Mikey

You know, TAMA uses a set up similar to this system today on the StarClassic line. Not sure about any of the other lines, but the top of the line has it, as seen here:

http://www.tamadrum.co.jp/STARPHONIC/key.html

See "Freedom Lug and Claw Hook", second down, in the right column. Really cool set up! Looks as though it is available only on StarClassic StarPhonic snares only, but that is pure conjecture at this point.

Also, check out the bearing edge. When I have any of my MIJ shells with a sharp edge, I re-contour them to as close as I can get them by hand, using sandpaper. It really makes a difference in the way these shells resonate, and it also increases projection from these lauan/Asian mahogany whatever they are made of wood stuff...

I really like the tone I get from this edge contour and the Aquarian Z-100 coated single ply heads. And for brush work on the snares, it is an amazing edge/head combination that just screams for a sweet jazz combo.

Some more photos of the mystery bass drum.

Maybe these photos will help with the I.D.

I offered him $50 because I thought if I was going to restore it I might have difficulty finding these t-rods = one's broken off at the claw. He would not go lower than $100 so I passed.

Anyone here seen one of these?
