Band update Last viewed: 2 hours ago

Have not been here much I've been trying to establish myself in a band after I left Ovrevolt. I never knew how hard this would be. Had several auditions, 4 to be exact. I only went on ones that looked promising. One band, did not have a demo, but based on conversations, and such with the leader. I was hopeful. When I got there, and we started playing, its was like I was going back in time to my garage band days. Not that I'm that great of a drummer, but I have been playing with musicians that were at a certain level, and I did not want to go backwards. and wouldn't you know it the next day I got the call saying I made the cut, and I had to politley tell the guy it was not a good move for me. (what bands dont realize is when they are hosting auditions, the drummers are also interviewing the bands) so its a two way street. long story short, I tried out for this Oldie band. the guys are great guys, no ego, all play for fun. the one draw back is they are pretty long drive for me. they really wanted me on board. so I committed. as you know, doesn't take much talent to play Hang On Sloopy type tunes. But I'll see how it goes. big change from what I was doing. my wife says its a good for me, an old guy in an Oldies band LOL!!. I think the real reason she likes it becuase groupies that hang out this band are like 70 and older. LOL.

Slingerland,

I think that you are in for a good experience! When you mentioned that the other guys "play for fun", without the ego trips, it sounds like a the kind of band a drummer can really enjoy! My daughter now sings for us and one of the things I try to instill in her is that rock'n'roll should be fun! Once playing becomes a tedious, serious and demanding job, why bother? Good luck and have fun!

Brian

Just a drummer who loves all things about vintage drums! Nothing more, nothing less.

well gary ive decided to do that also but instead of looking for one i pooled my base player who is probably one of the top base in the city and a guitar from his old group and they've worked a lot of rooms, then i put add on cl looking for working band so i got same calls but weeded them out lol and found keys that has rooms and a girl singer with her own stuff but i don't think either will work since when we got together he was a little too spiffy and she was out of the loop too long but we are going forward with another key and a harp so good luck and you can stop by anytime were jamming always a cold one here for u happy new year gary

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.
