While not vintage, I thought you might like to see one of my kits at work on a cruise in some mighty fine weather. Certainly better weather than many are facing currently. Note the Blaemire / Jenkins-Martin snare! (Thank you Drumjinx!!) We also just added a set of Meinl Byzance cymbals which seem to be pretty popular with a lot of drummers.

indeed, but I sent one of my techs instead and I am sitting here in 34ยบ and drizzle which is a typical Nashville winter. Not exactly the majesty of winter and certainly not the wonders of azure sea breezes.
No that would be A gig........plenty of them. It's actually the biggest regret of my life that I didn't get to play on cruise ships.
Man if I could go back a few years... That would be one fun gig!!
Scott - The Jenkins/Martin snare is a -perfect- choice for outdoor work like that. It's a loud, authoritative drum, temperature and moisture changes won't affect it and that snare cuts. Thoughtful choice of equipment.
But then... you're a real pro. :D

It is a fun Gig... back in the 70's 80's I cruised a lot out Sydney with P&O lines as well as CTC lines... but we had to use our own equipment. We would do 2 sometimes 3 cruises a year, usually timed to get us out of the OZ winter months for some Pacific sunshine...

I use the same shure sm 52 mic you have also scott.
In this case, this is a "Music Boat" style cruise. There are a bunch of artists and they play two stages on the ship in a festival situation. We have two kits on board and each comes with a selection of cymbals, and three snare drum options. We have a ton of keys and amps as well. Also, TONS of spare parts as there are obviously no runs to the local music store to replace gear. Besides the snares and cymbals mentioned each kit has 10-12-14 and 16 tons, 6 boom stands, 2 thrones, 2 snare stands, 2 hi-hats, 2 kick pedals, 1 double pedal, and plenty of spare heads. For those that are OCD like me, you might notice the 12" head logo is crooked. That is actually on purpose as we never know if the mounted toms will be right or left (1 up or 2 up). I make sure my guys place the logo at the mount as opposed to the badge so we never end up with an upside down logo. Each stage will see eight to ten artists over the course of the cruise so we have to be prepared for whatever comes up.
My techs and I push the JM snare at every opportunity. I know at least one drummer who purchased his own after trying mine and many others really compliment it.
