Awesome Vintage Drum Sound and Good Playing

I heard a "Song of the Day" the other day on KEXP and was psyched to hear a great example of a modern band going for the old 60s sound. The drummer was a little over the top, but he was pulling off the Mitch Mitchell thing. I don't normally plug bands, but I found myself sending this link to all my friends who might get a kick out of this. I really dig the drum sound too.

Is that really vintage drums? Talk about blind test, but I'm sure those toms have a Japanese ring to me. Oooh now there's a challenge. Hmmmm

I can't tell and the band seems to be new enough to not have much of a web presence. I bought the record yesterday though and he does some tasteful stuff (less full-on than this track). I'm betting on Ludwig, since all young bands going for a certain style seem to think only a 60s Ludwig kit can get them there. Also because I have a 60s Ludwig kit and on a good day they sound close to those. But are you saying Japanese drums can't be vintage?

Mean't to say MODERN Japanese. The sound reminds me of my old Pearl Kits thats all.

nice!

here's a band from australia (where i'm from). i don't know if you guys in the states have heard of them but they're HUGE here, and for good reason! all the musicians are multi-instrumentalists (all the playing on the studio recordings is done by the singer) and the playing on stage is shared amongst 4 or 5 of them. totally awesome. warning - this'll probably make check out all their stuff and make you sad that you're not in a famous rock band haha

Not only do some of us know about this great band, we even posted about them in this thread! They aren't huge in the states, but people who recognize that's there's more out there than typical girl-punching/biting Chris Brown trash know.

Cool, glad you like it. I love finding out about great bands that are doing something interesting. Ever hear The Hellacopters? If not, check them out. They changed a lot over their time as a band, starting out a little more in the MC5 style, ending up with a lot more late 70s arena rock riffs. The drummer has that swinging rock style that I love. Like so many great modern bands, they sounded like vintage American rock and are from Sweden.
