I may be mistaken but I believe that the wrap on Ludwig's new Legacy Classic Liverpool 4 kits is somewhat different from the 60s Oyster Black Pearl currently being offered by Jammin' Sam's and Precision Drum. I've seen the Ludwig wrap in person and to me it's the closest thing to the original. I believe the wraps offered by Jammin' Sam's and Precision Drum are slightly darker than Ludwig's current offering.

You may be right. I passed the fact that it's a little darker than drums I've seen (with actual 60s BOP) to normal fading that occurs with most any wrap. But -- to be honest I've never actually seen and handled any of the Ludwig Liverpool Legacy drums, just seen pics (when I saw the MSRP I was afraid to get too close to one!). Could it be that Ludwig puposely used a wrap that emulates a slight fading on their new drums? I don't know -- just thinking out loud.

In any case, the 60s BOP currently available is pretty close. A LOT closer that the "bowling ball" BOP of the 70s... and, the set/thread I mentioned/linked in my previous post sold for a LOT less than what the buyer would have paid for a Ludwig Liverpool Legacy set! The buyer and I were both extremely happy!

yeah!

i've spent a fair bit of time checking out the old wraps and i agree - the BOP isn't quite right yet - but that new ludwig BOP is pretty amazing!

i'm sure if that was on a vintage luddy I for one wouldn't be able to tell the difference!

i wonder where they get that particular wrap from...Delmar?
