Hey all! Perusing eBay for nice vintage snare drums and came across this BR WMP 4x14 shell being offered. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200804163492
I see too many discrepancies to think this is a legitimate Slingerland shell. Here's what bothers me:
1: The straddled lugs are placed too far apart
2: Lugs are also offset up/down incorrectly
3: Slingerland's 5-ply shell was 3/8" thick, with the thinner 3-ply shell having reinforcement hoops.
4: The badge grommet appears legitimate and would be a bit harder to obtain.
5: The wrap seam looks too nice for original Slingerland! Not really sure if it's located properly as well.
6: I've never seen the Leedy butt on the BR drum before. The drum always used the standard butt used with the Rapid strainer.
7: Finally, I'm not convinced that there would have been a tone control with this drum AND Stick Saver hoops. Didn't this drum use the Stick Chopper hoops?
8: One last thing! Just checked the serial number and would appear to be from about 1980. There were no BR 4x14's past about 1973!
All opinions are appreciated. Thanks!
