You know, I hadn't even considered that. I guess I was too gung-ho when I saw the price. The interior of the shell and the bearing edges should be black as well then, shouldn't they?

And now I'm mad because I feel like the chump they're trying to snag! Although $300 is a great price for a LM402.

So what would you do if you were at a shop and they had this drum up on the shelf? If it were a real Black Beauty I think you buy it at that price and call it a day.

In this case, though, would you point out it's a "forgery"? As a '70s 402 $300 is a great price, but do you think they'd be inclined to lower the price if they were told it was not a Black Beauty? They obviously don't know the value of a Black Beauty, so why would they know the value of a 402?

I was going to meet the seller tomorrow, he told me he would do $250, but he sold it. I suppose if it was painted, it would still had been worth buying, but I would had been very disappointed.

I checked out the drum day before yesterday. Left work to go get it and was super excited. It's a fake. Aluminum shell painted flat black with some kind of weird oil all over it. I suspect it was a Supra with bad chrome finish removed. It was very light.
