Are Leedy & Ludwig's Valuable?

Loading...

hey guys! how are you going, been quite a while since i posted anything last

Just wondering, i've stumbled upon a Leedy & Ludwig's collectible/valuable?

I've had a quick look around the net and it seems that they were only made for a couple of years like around '51 - '54 or so. But i haven't seen much stuff on ebay.

I suppose what i'm asking - if there was a FULL Leedy & Ludwig set (i.e. bass, rack tom on a rail consolette, floor tom, snare with all original parts present) do you guys think it would fetch a higher price, given today's market, than a FULL equivalent 60's Ludwig set (i.e. bass, rack tom on a rail consolette, floor tom, snare with all original parts present). For the sake of this scenario, lets assume that both kits are wrapped in blue sparkle, and in the same condition.

I know its all individual, and it depends what someone's willing to pay for it - but in your experience, what have you observed and what is your opinion? thoughts? I just don't really know enough about them!

Thanks!

I've never seen a full Leedy & Ludwig kit myself. Surely they had to exist. I tried to get info from our sister site, the Vintage Drum Guide, and they didn't even have a section for Leedy & Ludwig drums. I bought a 4 x 14 Leedy & Ludwig snare for a friend of mine in the UK, and that's the only one I've seen. I'm interested in this too. Maybe one of the real gurus will chime in.

Once again it depends on the condition of the kit. Rare doesn't always equate into high value. a comparable comparison to the leedy ludwig kit is a WFL kit from the same time period. they are generally no more valuable than a 60's Ludwig kit.

Assuming that they were both in very good condition then. Do you think theyd fetch about an equal price?

More than likely.

I have a full kit of Leedy & Ludwig drums, and I think they're one of the major "sleepers" in the vintage drum world. They go for about the same price as a WFL or Ludwig kit currently, but I don't think that will last long if the word spreads more on these drums. It may have already begun, I'm finding lots of competition when I bid for L&L items on eBay.

They sound incredible, they look beautiful (especially the WMP and BDP wraps), they're well made, and they're very rare. After playing vintage Ludwigs, WFLs, Gretschs and Slingy Radio Kings, I found my "holy grail" kit in my Leedy & Ludwigs.
