Aquarian Vintage Heads v Remo Ambassador AND Ringo's Hi Hat Last viewed: 1 day ago

Okay. I'm in the enviable position of having two Acrolites to set up.

One is a 60's, with new chrome lugs and rims... really turned out well. I may sell it, I may not. The other is a black sparkle Acro, that I used for the new parts for the vintage drum.

I have both the Aquarian and the Remo -- anyone have strong opinions yea or nay?

Also - I have one of the Premier vintage hi hats -- very cool it is, too ... and I NEVER thought it would be one of those "Ringo" things. Is this site trustworthy for info?

It's a great hat -- portable and lite...

Yes, Ringo used Premier before Ludwig, and I have seen pictures of him with the flat-based Premier stand. I don't think it carries the same weight as the Ludwig 1121 in the collector's market though.

Aquarian makes wonderful drumheads, and I do use the Vintage series on some things. They are darker and more organic-sounding thatn Remo. If you are looking for "that" cutting Supra tone, then the coated Ambassador is the ticket. If you want it lower-pitched and a bit greasier, then use the Aquarian.

JR -- thanks for the info -- I think I'll put the Aquarian on the Acro I plan to keep. Sounds like a winner.

Too bad about that Premier stand. It is a very neat piece of hardware - a little "art deco" touch about the base. It's lightweight and funky... may be a keeper.

Hey, I recently acquired a Slingerland Ace with a bit of a laminate 'bubble' in the shell, and a very very slight lifting of the wrap at the seam. May need your expertise!
