Anyone Ever Play One of These? Last viewed: 11 hours ago

Just wondering if anyone's ever played one of these "deep-shelled" Rockers' snares? If so, I'm wondering whether you believe it would be worth grabbing on the cheap?

THANKS in advance for your time and your input.

yes, ive got one in the 5 and the 6.5 version. they are great sounding snares. both of mine were chrome over wood. one was rewrapped in galaxy reissue wrap and the other was done is some nos 70's sky blue pearl wrap, neither by me though. they sound much like a jazz festival/auditorium snare. some have the granitone interior and are 4 ply. some have the maple interior and may be 6 ply.

Hey Mike!

Happy New Year!

Thanks for your input. I believe that the drum in question has the granitone interior. The lugs, as you can see in the pic I provided, look like the ones on the Standard series. Am I correct? Would this particuar hardware negatively affect the sound of the drum? Do you think it would be worth considering for less than $100?

Thanks again!

Yes get it now! It's my favorite snare. I have the 6.5" chrome over wood, grantione ineterior w/black/white badge. Nice deep and woody. I agree it's Jazzfest-like in sound. Underappreciated, cheap and pretty damn nice.

happy new year to you gary!

i paid either 100 or 125 for mine after it was rehabbed. i think i paid 75 for the 5" version when it was original with case and stand. the standard/rocker lugs will be just fine. bowties use the same holes though.

those drums were first offered with b/o badge with bowties, then b/o badge with standard lugs, and then black/white badge with standard lugs.

knowing ludwig, there are probably some with b/w badge and bowties as well!

i think at that price range, you'll enjoy the drum...

Thanks for the input, Mike. The owner informed me that this particuilar drum was manufactured in 1987. Does that seem right to you based on the granitone interior and Standard lugs?

I bought a 6.5" chrome over wood b/w badge snare drum off ebay a couple years ago for 75.00. It has the standard style lugs. Overall its a nice sounding drum, I do like my acrolites better.

Just seen a 5X15 COW B/O badge this morning in an antique mall this AM.Had a speckled interior like the old Tama Imperialstar drums from the 1980s.$65 was the asking price but never knew much about em. If y'all think the price is right I'll go back and get it.It looks almost new.
