OK, call me crazy, call me off my rocker, but....

take a look at this set Steve Maxwell is selling and look close at the pics.

its a train wreck, and the price? I was criticized for trying to get $800 for my fibes set with pearl mounts, this set also has non original mounts and the condition is horrible. now look at mine, I did finally sell mine for $600, I thought they were worth more, but $1200?

I assume he is asking so much because of the 18" bass drum, it has to be extremely rare. $1,200.00 seems to be a bit high for a set in such bad shape but then again I am not looking for a Fibes set in bop sizes.

Yeh, those are rough. Don't they even go over them and get them cleaned up? I think they could be helped some at least.

But I agree, those sizes are rare, hence the price.

That price is a little steep, but they're being sold by a dealer, not some guy on CL, cool sizes

I had the same set up, 22 13 14 16 18 ..I could not get $850 on mine and you see the shape my set is on, I ended up getting $375 on the 18........and just recently sold the rest for 600....which makes no sense but I ended up with more by parting it out like that.

For what it is worth Gary, I always thought your kit looked great.

I think the 18" is probably escalating the value.

As to a dealer selling price, that should be at least commiserate to a personal sale price. The big differential is between wholesale and retail; what a dealer is willing to pay vs. what they will sell for which would be their profit margin. I don't think there is any reason an individual should have to sell at less than retail. Just because an individual does not have overhead does not necessarily change the value of the item. There may be value added incentive when dealing with an entity like Maxwell or Bennett, but that doesn't mean an individual should have to charge less.
