Another Rogers set saved

Hello Everyone,

New member here. Wanted to show off my recent find.

Got this from a friend, who's father bought these new, and used them back in the day.

Rogers Holiday set, 20/12/16 with 7 line Dynasonic (4 digit serial#).

The drums are all original black wrap, and are in excellent condition.

The bass drum only has the single tom mount, and has no cymbal mount on it. That seems to be fairly uncommon.

The bass has Dayton tag s/n 83883. Interior is flat gray with slotted round head screws and round washers.

The 12" tom has Dayton tag s/n 90961. Interior is speckled gray with slotted round head screws and round washers.

The 16" tom has Dayton tag s/n 98361. Interior is speckled gray with slotted hex head screws and round washers.

All mounts are the machined versions, not cast. All the lugs have felts.

It came with a set of `60s A Zildjian 14" hats and a late`50s A Zildjian 20" ride, one Camco flat base stand, one Olympic flat base stand, a Swivomatic bass pedal and matching Swivomatic hi hat stand, and last but not least a Leedy &Ludwig Speed bass pedal.

Even came with the Rogers drum key, a soft case for the bass, and a nice Rogers trap case with lots of vintage sticks inside.

My research says it is a 1968 kit. That is backed up by the fact the bass drum came packed with newspaper (Boston Globe pages from late `67 and early `68) and the bass drum case was also marked 1968.

Everything is in great condition. The Dynasonic has the complete snare frame. The hardware on all drums looks original. It came with the original heads, but I put those aside for safe keeping.

Nice kit!! Great score with lots of extras! I have a Rogers from the same period, originally piano black like yours, that has the 1 mounted tom. I believe this would be the Starlighter configuration. Congrats! Enjoy them!

Awesome! Rogers is the one company that made drums I really thought looked good in a plain black wrap. Doesn't do anything for me unless it's on the Cadillac for drums! Beautiful kit!

I would certainly agree about the Black Nitron . It just so happens that my other kit is a drop G badge Gretsch 5 piece in Black Nitron!

I was in 10th grade in the fall of`81, and my folks agreed to buy me my first kit. When we walked into the store, I saw that black Gretsch kit with the natural maple BD hoops, and knew it was the one I wanted.

Sweet kit there louse!

First of all w e l c o m e to the forum. That's one great looking kit. We share prices around here, so let us know how much you paid. I would think a kit like that would be pretty expensive. Hopefully, you got a deal.

Congratulations.

Thanks for the welcome.

I am not ashamed to admit I paid quite a bit for it. $1300.

It was purchased from a good friend who had recently seen his business go under, and was in financial need. I let him set the price. I was not only buying a drumset, I was helping a friend.

He did not play drums, and they were going to be put in his basement to rot away. I couldn't let that happen!

I think considering the shape they are in, the fact that the Dynasonic is complete and a fairly low serial#, and that the set came with the extras, it was worth that much.

I sold a nice Fibes amber acrylic set to offset my spending.
