Howdy, I stumbled on this forum while trying to look for a kit like the first one I had. Thanks to the gallery I now know that the finish was called Fantasia pearl. My drums were Royal Stars and they were 20,12,14 with a COS snare. I have wanted a set in that finish forever now. I sold them back in the early 80's to buy a Pearl kit in bumpy fake leather finish. I lost that bet.

Greetings and welcome to the forum. There are a lot of guys (myself included) that have been seeking a kit to match their first one. Surprisingly, fantasia pearl kits pop up with regularity so you may be in luck. I say surprisingly as I don't believe I had ever seen one until I became a member here.

'Buddy Roach' love it. What's the story behind the name? There must be one. :p

The name just came from one of my favorite records, Rich Vs Roach.

I love that record because I really believe Buddy was humbled by Max a bit. Not in regards to speed or fills, but in overall musicality. I don't mean that Buddy was beaten at all. I just hear more respect in his playing on this record than I hear when I've seen him doing a drum battle with Krupa or Bellson. Make any sense?

I think Buddy smoked Max, Buddy was the master, everyone else was like his student.

I would respectfully disagree that Buddy smoked Max. I mean, it's art not a sports competition. It's like saying Monet smoked Van Gough. Both were painters but both employed different technique and the world is better because of it.

I love Buddy Rich but I am glad there are others that play differently.
