So...the "firewood"toms-are they out of round or delaminated?I'd be dip-stripping those drums and refilling the voids with fiberglass-infused bondo.Or a high quality wood putty.Dowel the moron holes. Then comes primer and single-stage enamel.Probably 2 coats at most. It's possible the M in the bass stands for metal-chrome over wood.Totally destroys the wood underneath, sometimes even with the utmost care trying to remove it.

Naw the toms are toast. They were in a storage container that was damp. All three plys are delaminated big time. You could sail a ship on all the waves.

M for metal? The bass drum in the back ground had a black chrome covering on it and has a P stamped in the inside.

Your right about taking metal wrap off a drum. Need lot's of patience.

Nope...the "M" on these looks like a stained mahogany exterior grade wood. Looking at the portion that has been stripped looks like some nice old wood. Too bad about the toms being toasted by moisture. The discussion and debate about the stamps has been had a couple of times over the last year I have been here and it was decided that is for the paint/stain grade exterior. "P" for "pearl grade" opr wrap grade exteriors. Keller's current line-up uses those as well. The exterior of "P" grade shells is not really suitable for staining because the plies are mixed and not bookmatched or continuous grain

Getting closer. Primered white.

Most are all wraped. Pictures of them to come.

Question for the Slingerland faithful. What heads to use?
