...And Your Choice Would Be? Last viewed: 28 seconds ago

I thought I'd check in with "the experts" to get some input on a possible kit purchase I've been considering. I'd like to know which of two kits you would choose, based on the build and sound quality as well as on the respective re-sale values. After all, I'm certainly not getting any younger LoLoLoLo.

When making your choice, please keep in mind that both kits are comparable in condition (both functionally and cosmetically speaking). The asking price for both is also extremely close.

Kit #1: Very early '60s Slingerland kit (22/13/16) with matching Hollywood Ace snare. Original black diamond pearl wrap. No badges on either tom. Black & gold Niles badge on snare drum with no serial number. Black & gold Niles badge on bass drum with extremely low serial number. Floor tom has the push-button mounts. Included with the four drums: Snare drum stand; Krupa hi-hat stand with pair of 12" Zildjian hats; Slingerland "AA" bass drum pedal; two 16" cymbals (one's definitely a Zildjian); four cloth carrying bags for the drums; one vintage cowbell; one antique-looking throne; and, one trap case.

Kit #2: 1967 Ludwig Hollywood kit (22/12/13/16). No snare drum included. Original silver sparkle wrap. All keystone badges have extremely close serial numbers. Included with the four drums: Double tom post with L-arms.

So, which one would it be for you?

Kit #2 for me, I am a Ludwig guy and the 3-plys are nice sounding drums and have a better resale value. ( not sure why Slingys resale is worse but it is for some reason.)

It is without a snare but most have there go to snare so not an issue with me.

I think both are well built and sound close but can't say because I never owned a 60's slingerland. The Slingerland has a lot of extras so could always piece it out if that is what you are looking for. So It comes down to your preference of wrap in which they are both common wraps. Good luck. Pretty equal in value with what is included with each.

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

Both of them !!! the Slingerland BDP Is one of the best looking color from any of the big drum companies in BDP !! But I'm a Ludwig lover too.

Your drummers not much good is he!? What you need is someone that's as good as me. ! John Henry Bonham !!

Hope you dont mind me chiming in because Im not an expert. But I would choose the Slingerlands, I dont care about re-sale value, I buy things for me. Plus they have so much extra with cymbals stands and bags. I do like silver sparkle more than BDP but I would still pick the Slingerlands, great sounding drums! Plus, you have a nice keystone Ludwig kit.

Thank you!

Real tough call here. May be a gold mine in the Slingerland kit, cymbals and bits sounds a very early 60's kit.

With resale in mind the Ludwigs. At this point in time.

Build and sound quality is all over the place in this during this period. Can you inspect either kit before purchase?

By no means an expert.

As noted above, the future resale is probably higher with the Ludwigs. Even so, I'd tend to take the Slingerland set-up because it is complete and ready to go out and play. Check to be sure all metal hoops are COB. Makes a significant difference and really has a lot to do with the Slingerland sound in my view.

I'm more of a Ludwig guy but in this instance I'd pick the Slingerlands. The whole kit sounds more intriguing.
